Chapel Hill Solar Farm

Unlocking enough clean domestic energy to meet the equivalent annual needs of 19,894 Worcestershire homes.

JBM Solar is in the early stages of bringing forward proposals for a 49.9MW solar farm and battery energy storage system (BESS) near Bastonford and Leigh Sinton in Worcestershire.

Solar energy is crucial in leading the way towards a net zero carbon future. It’s vital that we make use of the natural energy sources we have and move away from the fossil fuels that are damaging the environment.

In order to meet government targets of a decarbonised power system by 2035, the UK needs to deliver over 50GW of new solar energy in the next 12 years.

The United Kingdom Warehousing Association has acknowledged that unused warehouse rooftops could generate around 15GW of solar power, with the remainder set to be delivered on sites like Chapel Hill Solar Farm.

Benefits of the proposals

  • Generating cheap, renewable energy to power thousands of homes and move away from the use of fossil fuels.
  • The ability for 95% of the site to be used for agricultural practices, such as sheep grazing, once the site is operational.
  • Considerable ecological benefits including enhancing existing habitats and creating new ones.
  • A community benefit fund of £150,000 to help fund local sustainable initiatives such as rooftop solar on community buildings.

We will be launching our public engagement on the proposals this Autumn and a full consultation website will soon be available. Listening to communities is the cornerstone of our approach in bringing forward new, exciting renewable energy opportunities. Members of the community will soon be invited to tell us what they think about our proposals to deliver much needed renewable energy. We look forward to sharing these plans with local communities soon where their feedback will be fundamental in shaping the proposals further.

JBM Solar is one of the UK’s leading solar energy companies who has secured consent for over 1GW of renewable solar schemes in the UK and Ireland. JBM Solar is pleased to be supporting the UK in delivering on its net zero carbon emissions targets which can only be achieved with the adoption and rollout of reliable, affordable, clean energy sources.
